Creative Give and Take

One of the biggest barriers to being creative is taking the TIME out of your over-scheduled, super hectic life to actually create

We are a busy people. Work. Child care commitments. More work. Vacations. Recovering from vacation with more work to catch up on…. I get it. I do!

Here’s the thing - you HAVE TO flip the script.  You aren’t TAKING time. You are GIVING it. You are GIFTING yourself with the time to say yes and take an action towards creating your idea. It could be anything - a kids book you’ve been pondering for a decade (hello, talking to myself here), a business idea that’s been living in your brain rent free, a longing to dabble in black and white photography simply for the joy of doing it!

You can start small.

Three actions you can take to GIVE to your creative self:

  1. Admit to yourself (and maybe a friend you trust) that you have a creative idea and you plan to take an action towards bringing it to life.

  2. Take an old school tip from The Artist’s Way and do a media deprivation week. No tv, no podcasts, no mindless scrolling through TikTok.  You’ll be surprised by how much time other folks “art” is TAKING from your ability to GIVE that creative time to yourself.

  3. Start with 10 minutes a day working on your creation. Maybe that looks like writing down a list of places you’d love to photograph. Or sketching out an outline of your book’s main character. GIVE yourself the time to be creative.

Happy creative time to you!

Nic
